Being on the road can be lonely. But that doesn’t mean you must spend your holidays in quiet solitude. If you won’t be visiting home this season, in what ways can you still enjoy the holidays? Here are a few ideas to get you into the holiday spirit and celebrate the season.

Visit a Place of Worship

If you’re feeling alone on the holidays, check out a local place of worship to spend your time. You can feel much less lonely when surrounded by people of your faith tradition. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to meet people during the services, you’ll have the comfort of a familiar program.

Watch Holiday Movies

Of course, spending your nights at home under a cozy blanket has its draw, too. Why not have a private holiday movie marathon? You can watch classics like It’s a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street. Or you can embrace the cheese factor for the Netflix Christmas Universe movies. Or maybe you’d rather watch something like Die Hard or Gremlins.

Volunteer

If you want to feel good this holiday season, consider volunteering your time when you’re not at work. Organizations, faith communities, and charities are always looking for people to help out. You can work a toy drive or serve at a food kitchen. There are endless possibilities in all communities.

Send Holiday Cards

Stay connected with friends and family all over the country or even the world. Take time this season to send holiday cards. Write a personalized note for each one. It can be a form of meditation and a way to reach out to your loved ones in a traditional and often unexpected way in this era.

Tour Holiday Lights

Do you love the awe and wonder of light displays? Many communities have large drive-through or walking displays that you can visit. Or you can head to a neighborhood where the residents go all out with lights on their houses.

Invite Family or Friends for a Call or Zoom

During the pandemic, video conferencing, like Zoom, became more popular. Make time to call or video chat with your family or friends back home over the holidays. Many of us have people we love scattered across the country, so it’s a good time to have everyone in one place to celebrate the season.

We want to hear from you.
