Over the next 8 years, experts project that nursing jobs will continue to grow. If you are considering what field to enter, or if you want to change careers, nursing may be a great choice. Here is a look at some of the information on nursing careers to consider over the next several years and how to move in that direction.

  • Registered Nurses. By 2022 it’s expected that over 500,000 RN jobs will open up in the market place. This growth is due, in part, to a large number of retiring nursing expected in the next few years. This means that continued education in healthcare to pursue your BSN may be one of the most beneficial moves of your career.
  • The Affordable Care Act. The ACA is changing the way people gain access to healthcare. This means more people will be utilizing general practitioners or clinics instead of emergency room care. Competent and compassionate healthcare staff will continue to be in high demand.
  • Advanced practice RNs. While general RN positions are growing, there is also a greater need for advanced practice RNs. These jobs include nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners. If you can focus your specialization, and add new skills to your background, you may have a better chance at a long term career choice.
  • Growing but competitive markets. In spite of growth in these industries, there is still competition for many of these jobs. The market still seems to be focused on geographical regions. Southern states seem to have more job growth currently than the Northeast, but this is expected to grow as well in the next few years.
